Eaglesham schools and services to be hit by industrial action

Council services in Eaglesham are set to be badly affected by industrial action on Wednesday 30th November, with schools, libraries, sports facilities and community centres all set to be closed on the day.

East Renfrewshire Council is predicting that most local council services will be closed or run at a much reduced level as trade unions across the United Kingdom stage a day of industrial action.

As a result of this industrial action, council-run libraries, sports centres, schools, nurseries and family centres, community centres and halls are expected to be closed, and the council are advising residents that they should be prepared that the majority of services will not be available for that day.

Gritting services are likely to be affected on the day and the council is calling on drivers and pedestrians to take extra care during icy conditions. Any resident whose refuse bin or recycling is scheduled to be collected on Wednesday 30th November won’t have it collected until the next scheduled collection date.

The council’s registration service will only be available from the council offices in Giffnock. The council’s customer first service will operate a limited contact service during the day. Residents who require access to our services in an emergency situation such as housing repairs should call 0141 577 3 0 01.

A council spokesman said: "Our contingency plans are being put in place to ensure that we can provide locations for those employees that choose to come to work on 30 November. We have sought to agree exemptions from the strike action for several areas of service to protect public safety. We would aim to deliver a basic home care service, emergency social work service and cover for our CCTV control room though at a much reduced level than normal. We want to make sure our service users are aware in advance that most of our services will either be closed or running at a much reduced level on Wednesday 30November.”

There are a range of council services which can accessed online through the online services pages if residents need to report an issue, pay for or apply for online 24/7.
